Abstract
A retrospective study of cases and controls was performed on
newborns of both sexes, with and without diagnosis of neonatal hypoglycemia,
treated at Hospital Victor Lazarte Echegaray from 2016 to 2017. Through the
clinical histories, 43 cases and 43 controls were obtained, and bivariate and
multivariate analysis was used to determine association and risk factors.
Statistical significance was found with neonatal sex, prematurity and very low
birth weight (p<0.05). Normal weight was shown to be a protective factor for
neonatal hypoglycemia (p:0). In multivariate analysis, only the male sex
remains statistically significant as a risk factor for neonatal hypoglycemia.
